Ovi Contacts:Nokia's Answer To Obnoxious BlackBerry IM

As you may know by now....This country was INVADED by BlackBerrys the last Three years...but the crase got to another level this year as it has become almost a social REQUIREMENT to have a Blackberry in order to communicate with people...And to think that Blackberry don't even have half of Nokia Smartphone Features

Well back to the Subject at hand Nokia Ovi Contacts:Apart from using accounts with other popular IM service providers (e.g., for the Yahoo ), a user may also use his Ovi account to send and receive instant messages to and from other Ovi users. Depending on the user's tariffs for sending SMS text messages vs. connecting to the Internet from the mobile phone, using instant messaging can prove to be either significantly cheaper (volume-based data plan) or significantly more expensive (time-based data plan). in all it's still cheaper than the Blackberry Service.allows you to chat with your friends, send voice messages to your chat partners, and indicate your availability to your friends. You can also show information about your location to your contacts.

Nokia Ovi Contacts is a Presence and IM client that integrates to your Contacts Application. It can do automated presence based on your location too. Way it works is that you just save landmarks you want to broadcast and boom - in no time you'll be saying things without typing anything.Nokia Chat Features Include:

Meet one-to-one
Chat helps you hook up with no hassles by sending your real-time location in an instant message. This unique feature lets your friend pinpoint your position and share her own on Nokia Maps.

Share your location
Chance meetings with friends are made easy. Pick out your places on Nokia Maps and choose where you want to publish your presence. Chat automatically updates your location status when you arrive at your hangouts.

Update your status
As well as sharing your location, you can edit your status with what’s going on and stay up-to-the-minute with your friends. Status symbols on Chat show when you’re available, on the phone, or away.

Message friends
Chat puts quick and easy instant messaging at your fingertips. You can also record and send voice mesesages
Change your avatar, define details to your personal contact card and let the world find you (there's a setting to define whether you want to be visible in the search or not, that is). What about the provoking discussions promise I gave a few lines back? Well, at least I've found my self starting to comment on a personal status message of my friends more than once. Provoking personal message, the fact of knowing where the other person is or seeing the status can make you seriously ask questions in a spree.
Another thing worth highlighting is the fact that we love our beautiful smileys

Anyway I can't force anybody into using nokia, just like the people surrounding me (who are all bb users, by the way) didn't force me into getting a blackberry to communicate with them....So this app should be improved even more.....taking some hints from the Blackberry messenger UI...so it becomes a reallly profitable application...for example I use a Nokia N8 although E7 or HTC Desire is next for me Nokia should try making File sharing or voice clip-sending feature avaliable for every device!!

One disadvantage of BlackBerry Messenger is that you can't send an instant message to someone unless you know his or her PIN code, the eight-digit letter-and-number code assigned to that particular Blackberry device.

However, the biggest disadvantage of BlackBerry Messenger may be that it only allows you to exchange instant messages with other BlackBerry users. Introduced in early 2006 as a feature of BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1, BlackBerry Messenger isn't compatible with popular IMing programs. That's because it works differently.

With most instant messaging services, you download software that becomes the client on your computer or smartphone. That client connects to the provider's server, using a proprietary protocol for communication. Once you've logged on, the client sends the server your connection information (IP address), your computer port number and the names of everyone on your contact list.

The server creates a temporary file with connection information for you and your contacts. Then the server determines which contacts are logged on and sends that information to your client, as well as letting the contacts know you're available. After that, the server is no longer involved, and all communication is between your client and that of your message recipient.

With BlackBerry Messenger, however, the server stays involved as it would if you were sending e-mails. All communications go through parent-company Research in Motion's servers as you continue to exchange messages. That also means you can't use BlackBerry Messenger unless you have a BlackBerry Internet plan, or data plan

The White iPhone4 is Here

The white iPhone launch is not all sunshine and roses after all. As disappointed users point out, the Great White is a fraction thicker than the black one.
What's the big deal, you ask? After all the difference is really small as seen on these comparison pics. Well, the issues come when you try and slip some protective casing on the whitey. In other words, some tight iPhone 4 cases won't fit on a white unit.
Phil Schiller from Apple is quoted saying this about the manufacturing of the white iPhone 4: "It's not as simple as making something white. There's a lot more that goes into both the material science of it - how it holds up over time…but also in how it all works with the sensors".
This might explain the added thickness to the white iPhone 4 - they've may put some extra stuff behind the white glass.
It would have been better if Apple mentioned the new thickness on its specs page, no matter how small. Surely the "actual size and weight vary by configuration and manufacturing process" disclaimer is enough to keep the complaints out, but the users will definitely appreciate any heads-up about the potential incompatibilities.
